Did
you hear about the rogue squirrel in Knutsford (Wednesday 6th November
2002) who attacked a two year old girl? It had earlier bitten someone's
ankle. It may have been more playful than aggressive and an animal
behaviour expert reckoned that it might have been fostered be someone
as a youngster and lost its fear of humans.
The two year old Kelsi Morley's grandfather shot the creature to
prevent any further incidents.
The story appeared in the Knutsford Guardian and The Daily Mail.
I was contacted by news agency for details about the town.
An American member of The Gaskell Society surprised me with the
information that USA's news channel CNN put out the story over there.
Long Life to Widows
On Manchester Road last week a house was having a window refurbishment
so the firm put an 'A' board advert on the pavement outside. It announced
that having such work done 'could add 50 years
to the life of widows'. Is that fair to the rest of us?!
Last week I was given a pack of Spanish cheese by a friend returning
from a visit there. I hadn't thought of Spanish animals as different
from ours but the label says "Made with pasteurised milk from
manchegan sheep cattle.'' and adds "Lot and to be consumed
best end: label" I think that's 09.03 so I have plenty of time
to decide whether to risk it.
